The Blossoming Tinx
One of my best friends and my fav. TAR girl ever is the amazing Christy aka Tinx

She has weathered this world with strength and brilliance, and her beautiful hair has emerged remarkably unscathed. Tinx raced in season 13 of The Amazing Race. The beautiful Kelly Crabb was her partner. Although Tinx and Kelly finished sixth, they provided the viewers and their fans with priceless moments – one of which was them being peltered in powdered dye and water as they took part in the Holi celebrations in India. I, for one, enjoyed the sight of Tinx’ pink hair.
I recently sat down with Christy and ask her some questions.
Introducing the Blossoming Tinx
Who are you Miss Cook?
I was born Christina Dawn Cook, although no one has ever called me Christina. I’ve always been Christy. I live to have the most fun possible every single day, and I thrive on relationships with others, physical exercise and my relationship with God. I am in information technology sales, primarily in the K-12 education vertical. I love the change, flexibility and challenge of my job and feel blessed to do something fun!
What is the first thing you think of in the morning?
SNOOZE BUTTON!!!
Why choose celibacy?
That’s a tough question, because I have not. I will say that choosing celibacy outside of marriage is a Biblical principle, so I do believe in it. But boy, it is hard to follow through with. I will also say that not following that Biblical principle can get you into loads of trouble – emotional heartbreak, physical ramifications, etc. But it’s hard.
How did you get involved into TAR 13?
In 2007, Kelly and I had a rough year with guys! She was going through a divorce, and I’d been married and had it annulled within 6 ½ months. We needed to get away, and we toyed with a variety of options that would allow us to do that. Ultimately, we decided to try out for the Amazing Race because we wanted to travel the world and challenge ourselves. It was perfect.
Why did you make your 1st TAR video near a noisy road at night? *laughter*
Do watch this funny video!
Ha ha ha…Kelly and I are NOT perfectionists (hello – did anyone see us digging in the Brazilian sand for our “container?”), and we ARE fly by the seat of our skits kind of girls, so we decided to shoot the video all in one day. We were waiting on a table at Uchi, our favorite Austin sushi restaurant, outside on a busy street…and we just decided to shoot there!
Do you realise you’ve the most fascinating hair everrrr?
You are a hoot. Fascinating hair? Well thanks! I didn’t realize that, but I’ll take it as a compliment. I have a redheaded mother and two out of three brothers of mine are also redheaded. I guess it runs in the family!
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever experienced?
I have to say I think I have experienced a lot of crazy things, but going on the Amazing Race was definitely the craziest. I’m not sure I can pick out one single incident, though. It was all so surreal, from the start in LA to the Cambodian floating village to the crowded, loud, hot, dusty streets of India. India may have been the craziest, come to think of it.
Are Kelly and you still like sisters? We don’t see the both of you together much.
YES! We text message each other – literally – about 200 times a day, we email every day, talk on the phone frequently, and see each other as often as possible, despite the fact that I live in Austin and she lives in Houston now. I’ll be in Houston with her this weekend, in fact. I’ll post pictures on Facebook! She was in Austin two weeks ago, also.
Have you ever been told that you resemble Spencer Grammer?
Wow. Hmm…I have never heard that, and I’m honestly not too sure who that is, but I can see a bit of similarity in our jaw line and smile. I have heard Kelly Ripa a lot, though, and the girl from Melrose Place (the old one).
Fancy saying a few words to Mauritians?
Hi Mauritians! I have never heard of your island, but I love islands, beaches and water, so I’ll bet I’d love where you live. I hope to visit your home one day! You have a great representative of Mauritius in Fadil. He is my friend.
