Yashvin’s comment about playing Nibbles on his phone reminded me of old games.

In 2020, most of the Generation Y peeps will be grandparents. Our grandkids would be hallowing XBox 7 and enjoying games on the Natal 7 – holographic platforms. To bore the crap out these youngsters, we would talk of the good ole’ days.

Grandpa: “Dude!!! Frak this game! Prince of Persia on Dos rocked!”

Grandkid: “Sir, can you please not use such foul language?”

Grandpa: “Enough with the fag talk. Let me tell you about Prince of Persia!”

The above ‘convo’ could totally happen!

BTW, speaking of dates, 2010 will see the 20th anniversary of Prince of Persia (DOS.)

So, Prince of Persia has as primary objective to save the princess from the Grand Vizier Jaffar. The latter has seized power over the country while the Sultan was at war. So, the premise is just like that of Robin Hood. Prince John takes over England! However, you need to save the Princess before the timer runs out. – In 60 minutes, the princess will have to choose between marrying Jaffar or death.

The challenges involve finding a sword, fighting the guards, avoiding traps, solving puzzles and to make your way to the green marble doors. The game begins with you being a prisoner. You must escape from the dungeons.

When you fight the guards, the game enters a ‘combat mode’ which is kinda like a sword duel. If you’re hurt, you can drink healing potion to ‘replenish your life.’ Bear in mind that not all potions are for healing.

The graphics are very good for a 2D DOS games. The fire and lighting are good. Guards wear different clothes. The background changes often. The sound is fantastic! (well, back in the day, it was just great!) I bet you’ll love the 8bit oriental music.

Although Generation peeps love Mario and Sonic, Prince of Persia (DOS) remains the best game ever. Sure, there have been sequels on new gaming platforms but IMO, they suck.
