While the likes of Scobleizer [ http://scobleizer.com/] and Carrotmadman6 [ http://themediaguru.blogspot.com/ ] love Twitter Lists, I find this feature to be a pointless one.

What is the Twitter Lists feature? – Grouping of contacts under categories (public + private) + displaying the latter’s last tweets.

What is Twitter all about? – Spreading textual microcontent.

Dear Twitter,

WTF is wrong with you? Grouping contacts mean that you’re going away from your primary purpose (to spread content & provide live trends,) and venturing into social networking.

Channels VS Groups/Lists

Say I have 100 lists on Twitter.

I expect that the tweets posted by the tweeps will match the category they are into. Well, they won’t for the nature of content is independent of tweeps. E.g. I was added into the “Sanctuary” (It’s a TV series) list. Do I tweet about Sanctuary all the time? No. My 100 lists are useless most of the time.

Having 100+ lists does not ease browsing at all. Browsing content from tweeps through the trending topics is way easier.

Dear Twitter, the use of the # hash tag should be linked to the lists. Lists should categorise tweeps as the latter are now, and tweets according to the hash tag. Displaying the last tweets (without categorising them) is silly.

A few weeks back, I was evaluating Twitter and Jaiku [http://jaiku.com/ ]. I never posted the results for it was too evident that Jaiku is the ultimate tool for nerds and businesses. List of features of Jaiku. [ http://fadil.fr/jaiku.txt ]

Jaiku makes use of channels. One can add contacts to channels (which can be private or public.) Users post content into the appropriate channels. Content is categorised for the the user chooses which channel(s) he/she is posting into. The public stream is separate from the stream of the channels.

Dear Twitter, if you really want to bloat your web site, adopt the features of Jaiku.

I, for one, find the Twitter Lists feature to be an epic fail! It is a useless/pointless feature. Only content should be categorised!
